What is new in Primavera P6?
Since 2015 Oracle has been numbering Primavera versions as the year of the release. As of the writing of this article, latest on-premise version is 22.12. That is a release of year 2022 December.
We wanted to compile a list of enhancements in the recent years that would be of interest for many of the users.
- Activity critical path. Filter the chain of activities that drives the selected activity and the chain of activities forward driven by the selected activity. You can choose to view the activity-driven backward critical path, forward critical path, or backward and forward critical paths, or the resource-driven backward critical path.
- Financial Period Calendars allow to create and use different financial periods (ie. weekly, monthly) for different projects.
- Earned value calculation and fields at the resource assignment level. (P6 web only) Earned value metrics has been available at the activity level previously.
- View values on the histograms in Resource Profiles
- Check schedule health in P6 Professional. The schedule health check functionality in P6 Web is now available in the desktop client.
- Resource assignment codes. Similar to activity codes users can assign user defined codes to the assignment records in order to group and filter them.
- A second activities window. Now it is possible to open two activities screen side by side to view different projects, layouts at the same time. Compare two open projects side-by-side. You can open different layouts in each view, and the layouts are saved independently. You can filter, group, and sort the views separately.
- Add comments about relationships. Add the Comments column in the Relationships detail window to add extra information about the relationship, for example to explain the need for lag assigned to the relationship or the need for the relationship itself. Relationship comments are plain text and can be up to 250 characters long.
- Cloud. For sometime Primavera P6 is available as a cloud subscription. So customers having the 25 minimum users for an Oracle cloud deployment may opt to use the system from the cloud. This also brought the Cloud Connect driver for P6 Professional. Cloud connect is an alternative to direct client-server connections to Oracle and MS SQL Server databases. Available only when using Oracle database, Cloud Connect compress the data traffic and optimize the performance for not only Oracle cloud users but any P6 EPPM customer setting up a private Cloud or WAN deployment. Cloud connect is a modern alternative for customers who were using Citrix / Terminal server for geographically dispersed teams.
